Wayne County is located in southeastern Michigan, covering approximately 623 square miles. It is adjacent to Oakland, Monroe, Macomb, Washtenaw and Essex counties. Comprised of 33 cities, including the city of Detroit, 10 townships, one village and 41 public school districts, Wayne County has approximately 2.1 million residents, making it the most populated county in Michigan and the eleventh most populated county in the nation. Detroit is located in the northeastern part of Wayne County. " Motor City " is the world's traditional automotive trade center and it has gained a reputation for being a center for popular music. "Motown" has a decreasing urban population, home prices average around $138,000. The county is experiencing a period of revitalization after the city faced social and economic hardships in the 1960s.

Economy

Having experienced multiple periods of economic decline, Wayne County now has the stability to endure future recession. Some economic recovery has been seen with the three new casinos in the area and more recovery is expected to take place in the next few years. The County's former dependency on the auto industry has been lessened as the economy has diversified, the overall health of Wayne County 's economy and labor force participation remains linked to the production of vehicles.

With over 4,000 acres of parkland, Wayne County has a large variety of recreational opportunities for everybody. We have sports leagues, classes, day-care programs, after-school programs, public nature centers, arboretums, bike paths, marinas and much more! We offer fun for the whole family.
