ROCHESTER HILLS

Quality of Life

Focused on the future, The City of Rochester Hills is located in Oakland County, one of the wealthiest counties in America. With a population of approximately 69,000, the City has so much to offer both current residents and those looking for a Rochester Hills home, such as: quality housing; a downtown atmosphere that features a hospital, major university and shopping; two award-winning school districts that are consistently ranked among the best in Michigan; and about 1000 acres of parkland offering a myriad of recreational opportunities. Built around traditional downtown Rochester, our community features a sort of new urbanism in the Village. The Village of Rochester Hills is a modern walk-able shopping destination. Along with the other cultural attractions in the area like the Palace at Auburn Hills, DTE Music Theatre, Meadowbrook Hall, and more, life in Rochester offers entertainment options scarcely found in suburban areas.

Transportation

The beautiful city of Rochester Hills is located just 30 minutes from downtown Detroit, 45 minutes from Detroit Metro Airport, and within one hour of most other locations in southeast Michigan, including Ann Arbor, Auburn Hills, and Mt. Clemens.

Rochester Hills' roadways total 334.2 miles, including 215 miles of local and 38.5 miles of major roads. Oakland County owns and maintains 53.5 miles, and the State of Michigan 27 miles of roadway within the City.

Parks and Recreation

The Rochester Hills Parks Division maintains 14 park locations throughout the city. Residents enjoy four seasons of outdoors fun. Fishing, hiking, biking, walking trails along the scenic Paintcreek and Clinton River Trails, modern athletic programs and facilities and the recently opened Older Persons' Center are just some of what Rochester Hills has to offer.

Ice-skating, cross-country skiing and ice fishing entertain our residents during the chillier months.

Arts and Culture

The Rochester Hills Museum at Van Hoosen Farm is dedicated to preserving Rochester culture for present and future generations. As the premier Michigan museum on small-town life, the Rochester Hills Museum at Van Hoosen Farm represents similar towns in the area. Located in a restored 1927 Dairy Barn, well-designed and informative exhibits highlight the settlement, agriculture, industry and cultural evolution of this community.

Education

Education is an important community asset.  Rochester Hills offers two award-winning public school districts, Rochester Community Schools and Avondale School District , and ten private schools.  In addition, the main campuses of Oakland University and Rochester College are located in Rochester Hills, providing undergraduate and graduate level degrees, as well as continuing education for adults

Economy

We have a highly skilled, specialized workforce that generally lives in the Rochester Area. Our business environment is tight-knit, we support each other, our economy is largely based on business-to-business interaction.  Located along I-75 and M-59 and near to the World Headquarters of Daimler Chrysler, the City is situated in Automation Alley, the State's premier technology cluster, and is home to one of Michigan 's ten SmartZones.  The idea behind the SmartZone program is to support the technology sector by offering advantages, like a "plug and play" infrastructure allowing businesses rapid integration into our community, in hopes that it will draw more technology business to the area. Our main employers are automotive companies, computer-based companies, and companies engaged in future fuel and other research focused on future technologies.
