MACOMB COUNTY

Quality of Life

With roughly 788,000 residents spread across 482 square miles, only about 50% of the land in Macomb County is urbanized. The County ranks third in population in the state. It contains three of the ten largest cities by population in Michigan . Macomb homes range from extravagant to modest with waterfront living, high-end luxury estates, scenic country homes, historic rural villages, family-oriented suburbs and modern urban lofts.


Economy

Manufacturing is one of Macomb 's major employers, paying roughly one-third of the workforce. The County has 94 industrial parks, 8 community hospitals, the Community College and a University Center , which contribute to the area being a manufacturing center. Additionally, the service sector employs another third of the labor pool.


Transportation

The system of roads in Macomb allows for extremely efficient local, state, national and international traveling. Two interstates connect Macomb to the rest of the state, nation and Canada .


Education

Home to 21 school districts and 225 schools, Macomb serves 130,000 students.

Parks and Recreation

Macomb County has gained a reputation as a center for aquatic recreation with access to inland lakes and Lake St. Clair . Macomb County is home to more than 130 parks covering 12,000 acres managed by the state, regional, county, and local departments of recreation. There are four major public parks and a new linear park, the Macomb Orchard Trail, where people can enjoy a vast array of year-round recreational activities. Macomb County residents are never far from leisure facilities.
